Daminozide is a chemical formerly used by
fruit growers to make apples redder and
crisper. In 1989 a report published in the
US found the consumption of daminozide to be
linked with CANCER, and the US Environment
Protection Agency (EPA) called for an end to
its use. The makers have now withdrawn it
from sale worldwide.
